PULLMAN, Wash. -- Cougar freshman Kyra Holt’s 21 kills and 18 digs was not enough Sunday afternoon in Bohler Gym as the Washington State volleyball team (2-4 Pac-12, 15-4 overall) fell to Arizona (3-3, 13-5) in five sets with scores of 25-23, 22-25, 23-25, 25-17, and 15-12.

Freshman Emmy Allen added 10 kills to the WSU total while Jaicee Harris and Ver’Leea Hardaway each had nine kills. Marcelina Glab led the team with eight blocks with Allen, Harris and Hardaway each adding another four blocks. Freshman Haley MacDonald had 34 assists with Kate Sommer tallying 19 digs and Tani Stephens another 16 digs.

Madi Kingdon led Arizona with 19 kills and 16 digs while Jane Croson had 16 kills and Olivia Magill added 10 kills. The Wildcats out-blocked WSU 17 to 14 with Magill’s nine blocks leading the match followed by Halli Amaro with eight blocks and Taylor Arizobal with five. Penina Snuka had 42 assists and 20 digs as Candace Nicholson added another 20 digs. Arizona hit .124 for the match and WSU hit. 123.

“At times, we played really well but we just struggled with assisting today,” WSU Head Coach Jen Greeny said. “Passing broke down a lot in the fourth set and then you know just that momentum, it’s tough to get back.”

WSU is home again next weekend hosting No. 4 Stanford (5-1 Pac-12, 12-3 overall) Friday, Oct. 18 at 6 p.m. for the Cougs Wave Pink match for Breast Cancer Awareness. WSU hosts California (3-2 Pac-12, 10-4 overall pending 10/13 match vs. Utah) Saturday, Oct. 19 at 7 p.m. in Bohler Gym.
