PULLMAN, Wash. – Katie Taylor’s goal in the 104th minute provided visiting Utah a 4-3 Pac-12 Conference women’s soccer victory over Washington State, Sunday.

Taylor’s game-winner was a chip from the right side that deflected off Washington State (9-2-3, 2-2-2 Pac-12) defender Susie White and floated inside the far post over the outstretched hand of Cougar goalkeeper Gurveen Clair. It also salvaged the day for the Utes (7-2-5, 3-1-1 Pac-12) after they saw a 3-0 halftime lead slip away.

“Our energy was really good at the beginning of the second half,” Cougar Head Coach Keidane McAlpine said. “We dug ourselves a big hole early and it wound up biting us in the end.”

Utah, which scored on all-four of its shots on goal in the match, took a 2-0 lead when Megan Trabert scored a pair of goals in a 76-second span in the first half. Taylor Slattery’s goal in the 29th minute extended the Utes advantage to 3-0.

The Cougars turned the tide in the second half and got on the board when Jocelyn Jeffers headed home a corner kick from Micaela Castain in the 60th minute. Just 75 seconds later, White netted her first-career goal with a header off a corner kick from Kailiana Johnson.

After missing a couple of chances at the equalizer, Washington State did draw even on a header by Nicole Setterlund that was assisted by Kourtney Guetlein in the 70th minute.

Washington State registered an 18-7 advantage in shots and an 8-5 edge in corner kicks. The Cougars forced Utah goalkeeper Lindsey Luke to make eight saves.

Washington State hosts Oregon State, Friday at 2 p.m. in the Cougars’ annual Breast Cancer Awareness Match.
