PULLMAN, Wash. – The Washington State women’s tennis team crowned champions in both singles flights and one of the two doubles flights in the final day of the 2013 Cougar Classic.
In the Flight 1 singles draw, Elizaveta Luzina won the championship match Sunday over Boise State’s Teal Vosburgh, 6-4, 6-4. Sophomore Lize Leenknecht dominated her championship match in the Flight 2 singles bracket, soundly defeating Sophie Vickers of Idaho, 6-1, 6-2.
Leenknecht and Luzina also went on to win in the semifinals and championship matches of the Flight 1 doubles bracket Sunday. The Cougar duo opened the final day of the tournament by knocking off Bobbi Oshiro and Megan LaLone of Boise State (6-1). They then blanked the Utah State doubles team of McKenzie Davis and Kallie Sperry, 6-0 in the Flight 1 doubles championship.
In the Flight 2 doubles draw, Washington State’s Maria Biryukova and Dajana Ognjenovic opened Sunday with a semifinals win over Vosburgh and Sara Brown (Boise State), 6-2. The Cougar duo eventually lost in the championship to Vickers and Belen Barcenilla of Idaho (2-6).
The next scheduled competition for the Washington State women’s tennis team is the 2013 WSU Invitational, which is scheduled for Oct. 4-6 in Pullman, Wash.
