Once again freshman Kyra Holt led the Cougars with 15 kills, hitting .400 and tagged seven digs and two blocks. Jaicee Harris had nine kills and a match-high 16 digs while Kate Sommer added 11 digs and WSU’s only ace. Camryn Irwin set up 39 assists and led the match with five blocks.
WSU hit .396 and held Lamar to a .089 hitting percentage. Sierra Whitaker led the Cardinals with 13 kills, Ashley Ellis had 25 assists, and Madi Martin and Megan Schwartz each had nine digs.
The Cougars out-blocked Lamar 9.5 to three.
“I was really pleased with our blocking and the way we slowed their hitters down. I think we were pretty consistent throughout the whole match,” Cougar Head Coach Jen Greeny said. “We’ve been talking about blocking with a purpose and Camryn was up against their best hitter and she definitely did a good job on her.”
WSU plays host Sam Houston State at 5 p.m. PT Saturday night.
