PRAGUE – The Washington State University women’s basketball team defeated Slavia Praha, 80-68, at Hala Telocvicny in Prague, Thursday. The game was WSU’s final of a four-game tour through Austria, Slovakia, and Czech Republic.
“The last 10 days have been a great cultural education for us with all the wonderful countries we visited, the sights we’ve seen, as well as basketball we’ve played,” said head coach June Daugherty. “It’s good to see us go 4-0 against great competition over here. I’m really excited about our season ahead, and we hope to use these four victories to springboard into a great season at WSU.”
The Cougars took an early three-point lead over Slavia Praha and extended the lead to seven to finish the half leading, 39-32. Coming back from the break, WSU extended its lead to 66-48 by the end of the third quarter. Slavia Praha pulled back late in the fourth quarter, bringing the game within nine, but the Cougs maintained their lead and won, 80-68.
WSU completed the trip 4-0 against European opponents and will return to Pullman, Aug. 16.
