KAZAN, Russia – Washington State University rising-sophomore rower, Ieva Adomaviciute, finished seventh in the women’s single sculls at the 2013 World University Games while representing Lithuania last week.

A native of Kaunas, Lithuania, Adomaviciute joined the Cougars beginning with the 2013 spring semester. In May she was named the Pac-12 Newcomer of the Year, and in June she was named to the 2013 Pocock All-America First Team, becoming just the fourth Cougar to earn the honors.
Adomaviciute placed fourth in heat one on the first day of competition with a time of 8:20.47, moving on to the Repechage. In the Repechage, Adomaviciute just missed moving on to the Final A, placing third of six with a time of 9:20.24, 20 seconds ahead of Virginia Rivas Diaz of Spain in fourth place with a time of 9:40.76. In the Final B July 7, Adomaviciute placed first with a time of 8:19.40, nearly 15 seconds ahead of Rivas Diaz once again, for seventh place overall. Nataliia Dovgodko of Ukraine placed first overall for the gold medal, followed by Jitka Antosova of Czech Republic with the silver and Eiza Gulbe of Latvia in third for the bronze.

As a freshman in 2013, Adomaviciute competed in the varsity eight boat in each spring race, leading her crew to a victory over then-15th ranked Wisconsin at the San Diego Crew Classic and wins over Oregon State and Gonzaga in dual action. The varsity eight crew placed 14th at the NCAA Championships, two spots better than its seed heading into the championships. As a whole, the Cougar team placed 14th of the 22 teams at the championships.
Adomaviciute will compete with Lithuania at the 2013 World Rowing U23 Championships, July 24-28, 2013 at Linz, Austria
