PULLMAN, Wash. - Washington State University Assistant Soccer Coach Jen Klein will spend part of her summer as a head coach.
Klein will be the ODP Region IV '97 Girls Head Coach. Last year, she was a head coach for the '95 team. In 2011, she worked with the '97 squad as an assistant. Overall, it is the seventh year Klein has been involved with ODP Region IV.
"I really enjoy working with the best kids in Region IV," Klein said. "It helps me stay sharp as a coach, especially in identifying talent. It is a challenge to work with players who have different levels of soccer ability."
Her first stop will be a camp, July 1-4 in Pomona, Calif. A pool camp will be held in Southern California, July 22-26. From there, a select team will participate in a US Youth Soccer inter-regional event.
Last February, Klein was on staff for a Region IV team that traveled to Costa Rica for a tournament with four teams from the United States and four from the host country. The Region IV contingent finished second.
Region IV is made up of players from Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Hawaii, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.
"Working in Region IV gives me an opportunity to watch and work with kids on a more personal level," Klein said. "You get to know players on and off the field."
Klein is a second-year assistant coach at Washington State. The Cougars advanced to the NCAA postseason in 2012, their fourth trip in five seasons.
