Twenty-One Cougars Earn Pac-12 Rowing All-Academic Honors

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. - Twenty-one members of the Washington State University women's rowing team earned Pac-12 All-Academic accolades, commissioner Larry Scott announced Tuesday.

Four Cougars were named to the first team, including seniors Katie Dick (3.98 grade point average, philosophy) and Brianne Gould (3.88 GPA, general studies), junior Elise Jones (3.92 GPA, civil engineering) and sophomore Erin Schuster (3.94 GPA, undeclared).

Three other WSU rowers earned second team accolades, seniors Jennifer Hale (3.39 GPA, sport management), Heidi Kim (3.33, psychology) and Erin Ranney (3.50, wildlife ecology).

Rounding out the Cougar honorees on the honorable mention squad were seniors Liana DeMaris, Stephanie Hinkle, Samantha Hoeper and Alison Smith, juniors Kendall Boliba, Gina Head, Carly Johnson, Ella Odland, Alyssa Rumann and Emily Starkel, and sophomores Megan McDonald, Kellen Srb, Alex Waddell and Sarah Wu.

Dick is receiving the honor for the fourth-straight year, as she has made the first team all four years. Ranney, Hale, Smith and Hinkle are each receiving their third-straight All-Academic honors. Ranney was on the first team last year, while Hale and Smith each earned second team honors. Jones is receiving first team accolades for the second-straight year, Kim received honorable mention accolades in 2012, Head is earning honors for the second-straight year after appearing on the first team last year, while Hinkle, Hoeper, Johnson, Odland, Rumann and Starkel are honorable mention selections for the second-straight season.

To be eligible for selection to the Pac-12 academic teams, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade point average, compete in a minimum of 50 percent of competitions, and be in at least her second academic year at the institution.
