PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) - Derrick Low scored 17 points to lead Washington State to a 69-50 win over Cal State Northridge on Saturday afternoon.
Ivory Clark added 14 points off the bench for Washington State (10-1). Kyle Weaver scored all 12 of his points in the second half for the Cougars, who are off to their best start since winning their first 12 games in 1991-92.
Jonathan Heard led Cal State Northridge (6-5) with 20 points, but he had eight of the Matadors' 23 turnovers and committed five of the team's 26 fouls. Terrell Jones scored 14 points for the Matadors, and Calvin Chitwood had 11.
Washington State nursed small leads most of the first half, but the score was tied at 28-28 at halftime.
The Matadors were charged with 17 fouls and 14 turnovers in the second half, when Washington State committed just four turnovers and held Northridge to 35 percent shooting from the field.
The Cougar's 13 total turnovers were a season low for a Northridge opponent. The Matadors, who came into the game ranked among the NCAA leaders with 85.5 points per game, scored less than 70 points for just the second time this season.
Illinois State beat Northridge 66-44 on Nov. 20. The Matadors are 4-29 all-time against Pacific-10 Conference teams. WSU is 9-0 all-time at home against Big West Conference teams.
