STANFORD, Calif. - Senior Tasha Browner is tied for the lead after the first day of the Peg Barnard Collegiate at the par-72, 6,154 yard Stanford Golf Course, Saturday.

Browner carded an even-par 72 to share the lead with San Jose State's Marcela Leon after the tournament's first 18 holes. Freshman Kim Welch is among a group of seven players tied for third after shooting a one-over 73. Freshman Jay-Lee Longbottom is tied for 27th after recording a 77 (+5).

The Cougars enter tomorrow's final round in third place after shooting an opening round total of 301. WSU is four shots back of tournament leader Washington and trails second place USC by a single stroke.

The Cougars are among eight Pacific-10 Conference teams competing at the tournament. The Barnard Classic will serve as the final event for the Cougars before the Pac-10 Championships -hosted by WSU - at the Walla Walla Country Club in Walla Walla, Wash., April 22-24.
