TCU PREVIEW: The Horned Frogs have split their first two games...TCU defeated Sam Houston State 91-81 in its season opener, Nov. 22 and lost 87-84 in overtime at SMU, Nov. 24...the Horned Frogs are led by Junior Blount's 30.5 points per game...Bingo Merriex is averaging 8.0 points and a team-leading 12.5 rebounds per contest.
SERIES WITH THE HORNED FROGS: This is the first meeting between Washington State and TCU.
GOOD START FOR COUGS: Washington State has won its first two games for the first time since 1997-98...the last time the Cougars were victorious in their first three games was the 1996-97 season when they began the campaign 5-0.
CLOSE GAMES: The Cougars have won their first two games by margins of eight and six points, respectively...last season, in games decided by 10 points or less, WSU posted a record of 2-8.
BOMBS AWAY: Through two games this season, Washington State has attempted 62 three-point shots, connecting on 19 (.306)...the Cougars are attempting an average of 31 treys per contest...last year, they averaged just over 20 attempts and shot just above 32 percent...in the Southern Utah win, the Cougars attempted 34 shots from beyond the arch, three short of the school record (Dec. 29, 1990 vs. Seattle).
TEXAS ROAD TRIPS: The Cougars are 0-2 in the Lone Star State during Paul Graham's tenure...last season, WSU was defeated 79-52 at Texas (Dec. 10)...the other loss came 55-52, Feb. 28, 2000 at Texas-Pan American...the last win in Texas for WSU was 114-68 over Grambling State, Dec. 29, 1998 at the Sun Bowl Classic in El Paso...the last "road" win in Texas was 70-54 at Texas-El Paso in the Sun Classic, Dec. 27, 1994...the Cougars are 2-5 in Texas all-time, including 1-4 in road games...WSU is 8-7 all-time against schools located in Texas.
MOORE CHASING HISTORY: Junior Marcus Moore (Inglewood, Calif.) needs just 199 points for 1,000, 60 assists for 300 and 24 steals for 125 in his career...if he reaches all three milestones, he will become the third player in WSU history to accomplish the feat...Keith Morrison (1983-86) and Bennie Seltzer (1990-93) are the other two.
MOORE NOTES: In the win over San Jose State, the junior point guard tied his career-high with 35 points and recorded the fourth 30-plus point game of his career...in the victory over Southern Utah, he tied his career-high with 10 rebounds and tallied the fourth double-double of his career...through just two games, Moore is averaging 31.5 points and is on pace for 850 points this season...both marks would shatter the single-season WSU record for scoring (657-Isaac Fontaine in 1996-97) and scoring average (23.1-Don Collins, 1979-80)...Moore is also on pace for 81 steals which would best the single season record of 76 held by Collins (1979-80).
