PULLMAN, Wash. - The Washington State University women's soccer team received its second preseason ranking with Soccer Times placing the Cougars at No. 18.
It is the highest preseason national ranking in school history for Washington State, which is also No. 21 in the National Soccer Coaches Association of America preseason poll.
The Cougars open their season today at 3 p.m. against No. 6 Florida State in the inaugural WSU Invitational. Washington State will host Utah at 1:30 p.m., Sunday.
It is the third time the Cougars have appeared in at least one preseason poll. The Cougars were No. 20 entering the 1995 season and as high as No. 21 a year ago.
Washington State is seeking its third-straight NCAA postseason appearance under the guidance of eighth-year head coach Matt Potter. Prior to Potter's arrival, the Cougars made three NCAA postseason appearances in school history.
The Cougars are coming off a 14-6-2 campaign, including a victory over Villanova in the NCAA First Round a year ago.
