PULLMAN, Wash. - Senior Day, Homecoming Weekend, a record crowd and a gutsy effort by the Washington State soccer team earned the No. 24 Cougars a 0-0 draw with No. 4 UCLA at Lower Soccer Field, Friday.

In front of 1,652 boisterous fans, a Washington State (10-4-2, 4-1-1 Pac-12) single-match home record, the Cougars moved into sole possession of second place while the Bruins (10-1-3, 3-1-2 Pac-12) fell to fifth place in the conference standings.

"The first half we played very well," Cougar Head Coach Matt Potter said. "In the second half, UCLA turned it up a bit and we defended. Our endeavor deserved something today. Our crowd was fantastic today. I would like to personally thank everyone who came out."

The Cougar defense withstood 29 shots, only five on goal, including a second half when UCLA fired 15 attempts at the net.

"Our defending starts with our forwards," Potter said. "All the way through the team, midfielders and backs, did a good job of not giving them clear shots on the goal."

Senior Jacquelyn Roth added, "Everyone wanted to give everything. The crowd was the best we have ever had here. Of course we wanted to win, but holding them through overtime, with as much as they came at us in the second half, means a lot."

Washington State begins a five-match road stretch at Oregon State, Friday, Oct. 21 at 7:30 p.m.
