PULLMAN, Wash. - Candace Fields led Washington State with 10 points in the Cougars' 85-50 loss to the Utah Utes in non-conference women's basketball action, Saturday at Friel Court.
Fields led a group of four Cougars (0-8) that scored eight points or more. Kim Dugan (nine points), Bianca McCall (eight points) and Holly Harris (eight points) rounded out the quartet. The game marked the Cougar debut of Harris, who joined the team after completing an Elite Eight run with the volleyball squad at the NCAA Tournament.
Shona Thorburn led a contingent of four Utah (7-1) players in double figures with 19 points. Julie Wood added 17 while Kim Smith and Carley Marshall each chipped in 12.
For the game, the Utes shot 30-of-63 (47.6 percent) from the field including 17-of-27 (63 percent) in the second half. Conversely, WSU shot 21-of-57 (36.8 percent) in the game.
Up 7-5 at the 13:43 mark of the first half, Utah outscored the Cougars 12-2 over the next 3:33 to take a 19-7 advantage with 10:10 remaining. Utah maintained its double-digit lead the remainder of the game.
WSU opens up Pacific-10 Conference play hosting Washington, Saturday, Dec. 28 at 1 p.m. Fox Sports Northwest will televise the game live.
