PULLMAN - Washington State volleyball Head Coach Marcelina Glab are members of the Pac-12 Conference summer all-star volleyball team touring China this June, Commissioner Larry Scott announced Wednesday.
The volleyball team is comprised of a dozen Pac-12 student-athletes and will play at least six matches against Chinese professional club teams over two weeks in Beijing and Shanghai. USC's Head Coach Mick Haley will be leading the coaching staff that includes Cougar Head Coach Jen Greeny and Utah Head Coach Beth Launiere.
Greeny has completed two seasons of rebuilding the volleyball program as the head coach at Washington State after a distinguished playing career for the Cougars and coaching career at the high school and collegiate levels. Glab is a 6-2 middle hitter from Watertown, South Dakota, who has started for three seasons for the Cougars and been the team's co-captain. Last season Glab led the team in blocks per set with 1.15 and tallied 121 block assists with is 10th-best in WSU all-time single season records.
In addition to the matches, the student-athletes are slated to take in cultural and sightseeing opportunities at the Great Wall, the Forbidden City, the Summer Palace and other tourist venues near Beijing and Shanghai.
Every conference school nominated student-athletes for the all-star tour and the coaching staff and Pac-12 liasion then selected the team. Two setters, one libero, three middle blockers and six outside hitters from 10 of the 12 conference member schools will make the trip to China. There are five All-Pac-12 players and two AVCA All-Americans from the 2012 season. In 2012 four Pac-12 schools hosted one of the leading professional teams, Jiangsu Volleyball Team, from Nanjing, China.
