FEDERAL WAY, Wash. - Senior Erin Eldridge finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke with an NCAA consideration time of 1 minute, 3.38 seconds to add on 17 points to the WSU team total of 161.25 points Saturday at the 51st Annual Husky Invitational held at the King County Aquatic Center.

The Kirkland native turned in a season best time in the event which ranks in the college top 25. Eldridge was edged out of the event title by 17-year-old Tara Kirk of Maki Aquatics, a Pacific Northwest club team. There are six college teams and 36 club teams competing at the four-day invitational hosted by rival Washington. Kirk's time of 1:01.10 would have qualified her automatically for the NCAA Women's Swimming and Diving Championships to be held in Indianapolis, Ind. this year.

WSU had two good outings in the 200-medley relay. The Cougars' top team of Kelley Miedema (Cape Town, South Africa), Eldridge, Melissa Hubley (Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Canada) and Sara Schmied (Woodinville) finished third with a time of 1:48.33. The backup team of Suzie Muirhead (Mukilteo), Rachelle Carano (Reno, Nev.), Gretchen Chambers (Adelaide, Australia) and Rebecca Cohen (Portland) placed seventh with a 1:52.63.

"There are a lot of fast swimmers and it is a pretty big meet with lots of competition," Hubley said. "Our overall placing was pretty good today. We hope to turn things around tomorrow and do even better."

The Cougars are in tenth place among the 42-team field and prepare for the final events on tap tomorrow beginning at 9:30 a.m.

"We are taking one race at time and seeing how we do," freshman Jill Olson said. "We will definitely pull together and get in some good swims tomorrow."
