Cougars to Face UNLV, Oregon to Conclude Road Trip

THIS WEEK: The Washington State University women's tennis team continues its longest road trip of the season as it faces UNLV Tuesday morning before concluding with a noon matchup Sunday at Oregon.

LOOKING AT UNLV: The Rebels enter the match boasting an 8-3 record, including an 8-1 mark when playing at home. The Rebels have won their last five matches and eight of their last nine after dropping their first two matches at the ITA Kickoff Weekend. Juniors Aleksandra Josifoska and Lucia Batta hold national singles rankings, at 24 and 90, respectively. UNLV holds a 7-2 advantage all time against WSU, including a 4-1 victory the last time these teams met, Feb. 29, 2004 in Las Vegas.

SCOUTING OREGON: Oregon enters the week with a 10-1 mark, the lone blemish being a 4-3 loss against Akron. In their last outing the ducks knocked off No. 55 Denver, 5-2. Oregon opens Pac-12 play Friday against Washington before hosting the Cougars. Sophomore Nicole Long is 11-0 in dual matches this season, winning all her matches in straight sets at the top three singles positions. The Ducks hold the advantage all time, 34-21, however the Cougars have won the last two meetings, including a 5-2 win the last time playing in Eugene (April 16, 2011).

LAST WEEKEND: The Cougars open Pac-12 Conference play last weekend and struggled at the Bay Area teams, falling 6-1 at No. 18 California and 7-0 at No. 20 Stanford. In the California match, junior Lize Leenknecht captured the first set at No. 6 singles and held a 4-3 lead in the second before falling in a third-set tiebreaker.

WSU RANKED No. 73: In the most recent poll, the WSU women's tennis team garnered the No. 73 ITA national ranking. The Cougars have been ranked all season, including a high of No. 32. WSU is currently 10-4 in 2013 with all four losses coming against teams ranked in the Top 40 at the time of the match.

COACH HART: Lisa Hart is in her 10th season as the head coach of Washington State. Hart has accumulated 119 wins over her tenure, recording a 19-7 record along with a trip to the NCAA Championships in the 2011-12 season. Hart was awarded the Pac-12 Conference Women's Tennis Coach of the Year award for the 2011-12 season.

CLIMBING THE CAREER CHARTS: Senior Liudmila Vasilieva is currently ranked No. 2 on WSU's career singles wins list with 103. Vasilieva needs six wins to surpass Elisabeth Fournier to become WSU's singles wins leader. Senior Ksenia Googe surpassed Erica Perkins to become No. 4 on the career singles win list with 88. If she wins both of her matches this upcoming weekend, she will be tied for third with Ekaterina Burduli. Senior Andjela Kankaras commands the No. 6 spot with 82 wins.
