SAN FRANCISCO – Seventeen members of the Washington State University women's rowing team earned Pac-12 All-Academic accolades, commissioner Larry Scott announced.
Five Cougars were named to the first team, including seniors and three-time honorees, Katrina Tarrant (3.69 grade point average, psychology) and Jordan Watson (3.71 GPA, sport science), junior and second-year honoree Mihaela-Teodora Berindei (3.94 GPA, accounting) and sophomores Miranda Armstrong (3.73 GPA, undeclared) and Emily Morrow (3.88, undeclared).
Six other members of the WSU rowing team earned second team honors; seniors and third-time honorees Rebecca Burns (3.32 GPA, sport science) and Sarah Steger (3.47 GPA, journalism), senior and second-time honoree Morgan Cathrea (3.41 GPA, neuroscience), juniors and second-year honorees Jessi Howe (3.53 GPA, civil engineering) and Isabella Watt (3.47 GPA, sport science) and sophomore Jenna Mangiagli (3.50 GPA, undeclared).
Rounding out the Cougar honorees on the honorable mention squad were seniors Kim Coon, Savannah Davison and Kotryna Lasaite, junior Brittany Brooks and sophomores Ellie Burg and Codi Swenson.
Tarrant, Watson, Burns, Steger and Coon each received all-academic honors each of their three seasons of eligibility for the award. Tarrant and Watson were also first team honorees in 2015 and second team in 2014, while Burns was second team in 2015 and honorable mention in 2014. Steger and Coon were both honorable mention in both 2015 and 2014. Berindei, Cathrea, Howe, Watt and Davison are all picking up their second all-academic honors as Berindei was first team in 2015, Cathrea and Howe were second team in 2015 and Watt and Davison were honorable mention in 2015.
Washington State led the way with 17 honorees, followed by Stanford with 16, California with 15 and Washington and Oregon State each with 14 all-academic honorees. UCLA had seven representatives on the teams, while USC had four.
To be eligible for selection to the Pac-12 academic teams, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade point average, compete in a minimum of 50 percent of competitions, and be in at least her second academic year at the institution.
