CATS AND DAWGS TO BATTLE IN T&F APRIL 23 IN PULLMAN
The Washington State track and field teams will compete in a dual meet against the University of Washington for the 97th year for men and the 37th year for women this Saturday, April 23, at WSU's Mooberry Track Complex in Pullman...field events begin at 11 a.m. and running events begin at 1:15 p.m....scoring is 5-3-1 for individual events and 5-0 for relays...in national rankings: MEN - UW No. 33, WSU No. 72; WOMEN - UW No. 45, WSU No. 69...spectators may attend free of charge with parking in the Beasley Coliseum lot...no pets allowed...results will be available online at www.wsucougars.com after the meet...for more information about the history of the meet, see below.
WAYNE PHIPPS, DIR. OF WSU CROSS COUNTRY/TRACK & FIELD
Wayne Phipps (Univ. of British Columbia '91/Oregon '94) become the 15th coach to take the reins of the Washington State men's program and the second coach for the combined men's and women's program at WSU on July 1, 2014...Phipps had been the University of Idaho's Director and Track & Field/Cross Country from 2010 through 2014, and was a coach with the Vandals program for a total of 19 years...he served as co-head coach from 2000-09, after serving as an assistant coach from 1995-99... at Idaho, he was named conference Coach of the Year 14 times and led the Vandals to a record 16 conference titles.

COUGARS & HUSKIES DUAL MEET HISTORY: 37TH YEAR FOR WOMEN, 97TH YEAR FOR MEN
Huskies swept the dual meet in 2015: 113-50 men, 99-64 women...men's dual meet history is not clear-cut, with some multi-scored meets also scored as dual meets...after several years of research by both the Washington and WSU Athletic Communications offices, the WSU records show 2016 is 97th year of a dual meeting between the Cougars and Huskies men's teams...WSU leads the series 61-37-1...there are also records of meetings in multi-team meets but are not counted as the main dual meet of that season...this is the 37th year for a dual on the women's side...overall, UW women lead 22-18, but the WSU women has won 14 of the last 20 years.
