Men?s Golf to Compete at Chambers Bay

THIS WEEK: The Washington State men's golf team will travel to University Place, Wash., to compete at the Seattle U Redhawk Invitational presented by OGIO, Monday and Tuesday, April 4-5.

THE TOURNAMENT: The two-day 54-hole tournament will begin with a shotgun start at 8 a.m. both Monday and Tuesday at Chambers Bay Golf Club, which was home of the 2015 U.S. Open Championship…thirty-six holes will be played Monday and 18 holes Tuesday.

THE FIELD: Joining Washington State and host-Seattle in the 16-team field are British Columbia, Boise State, DePaul, Loyola Chicago, Loyola Marymount, Missouri-Kansas City, Nebraska, Northern Illinois, Oral Roberts, Oregon State, Seton Hall, TCU, Utah Valley, and in-state rival No. 27 Washington.

REPRESENTING WASHINGTON STATE: Competing for the Cougar men will be sophomore Derek Bayley, freshman AJ Armstrong, seniors Evan Omelia and Bhurinat Songpaiboon, and freshman Aaron Whalen…sophomore Zach Anderson will compete as an individual.

LAST TIME ON THE GREEN: Men's golf tied for 10th (+28, 892) with Fresno State at the Airstream Adventures Northwest Classic, March 22, at the Willamette Valley Country Club…WSU finished six strokes ahead of in-state rival Gonzaga and 10 strokes in front of of Pac-12 competitor Utah…UNLV won the tournament with a three-round total of 842 (-22)…Armstrong recorded his third top-25 finish of the season after shooting 2-over par (218) through three rounds…Bayley tied for 31st (+5, 221), three strokes behind Armstrong.

COACHING STAFF: The men's golf team is led by fifth-year head coach Garrett Clegg…assisting Clegg is WSU alumnus Dustin White, a third-year assistant coach who golfed for the Cougars from 1999-2003.

NEXT UP: Washington State will travel to Provo, Utah, to compete at the PING Cougar Classic, April 11-12 before concluding the season at the Pac-12 Championships at Salt Lake City, April 29-May 1.
