Cougars Tied for Fourth Entering Final Round

LIHUE, Hawaii – The Washington State men's golf team is tied for fourth with UNLV entering the third and final round of play at the John A. Burns Intercollegiate, Thursday, at Wailua Golf Club.

“It was a solid round for us today,” WSU Head Coach Garrett Clegg said. “We really struggled to capitalize on our birdie opportunities. Hopefully tomorrow we will be able to perform on the par 5's.”

WSU (+5, 581) continues to hold its own with a competitive field. No. 7 Texas leads the tournament at 16-under par (560), followed by California (-9, 567) and Texas A&M (+1, 577), in second and third place, respectively. The Cougars lead in-state rival Washington (+7, 583) by two strokes.

Derek Bayley moved 12 spots up the leaderboard and is now tied for fourth at 3-under par (141). Bayley shot a second-round 69 after shooting even par in the first round. He trails tournament-leader K.K Limbhasut by four strokes.

After shooting 1-under (71) on the day, freshman Aaron Whalen is tied for 18th (-1, 144). Junior Nick Mandell trails Whalen by one stroke and is tied for 25th (+1, 145).

Freshman AJ Armstrong and sophomore Zach Anderson are tied for 59th (+8, 152).

“The guys are playing really solid golf and doing a great job of battling for every stroke,” Clegg said. “I'm excited to see what tomorrow has in store.”

The third and final round begins Friday with a shotgun start at 10:30 a.m. PT/8:30 a.m. HST. Check golfstat.com for live scoring updates. A full recap will be posted at wsucougars.com at the end of the round.
