Second Round Delayed in Tucson

TUCSON, Ariz. – Darkness fell Monday evening on the Sewailo Golf Club in Tucson, Ariz., as the Washington State University women’s golf team concluded the opening day of the Wildcat Invitational in 12th place. The Cougars shot a 300 (+12) in the second round, improving on a first-round 306 (+18), to finish with a two-round 606 (+30). Idaho and Texas Tech are tied for 10th above WSU with five holes to play in the second round.

Sophomore Cherokee Kim fired a second-round, 1-under 71. Kim carded three birdies in the afternoon, bringing her two-round total to 148 (+4). Kim is currently tied for 30th. Freshman Alivia Brown finished two strokes back from Kim on the day (+6, 150). After an opening round 78 (+6), Brown rallied on the front nine of her second round, saving par with a pair of birdies, and went on to card an even 72. Brown is currently tied for 39th.

Junior Rachel Lewis got off to a hot start in Tucson. Lewis fired five birdies in the opening round on the front nine before cooling off to finish the round 1-over (73). Lewis (+12, 156) is currently tied for 66th. Senior Kristen Rue finished the day one stroke up on Lewis. Rue        fired a second-round 75 (+3), improving on a first-round 76 (+4), and is currently tied for 62nd. Junior Nani Yanagi (+14, 158) is currently tied for 76th.

Darkness delayed the conclusion of the second round, Monday, with several groups unable to complete the round. Second round action will resume Tuesday at 7 a.m. with the third round following at 9 a.m. in a shotgun start. Live results can be found at birdiefire.com.
