T&F Teams Training for Outdoor Openers

WASHINGTON STATE TRACK & FIELD THIS WEEK
The Washington State track and field teams are spending the next two weeks utilizing the fabulous Palouse spring weather preparing for the 2015 outdoor season...several Cougs will compete at the USC Trojan Invite March 21-22...WSU teams will at the Jim Bush Collegiate Invite competing against UCLA and Long Beach State teams,Tues., March 24 at UCLA’s Drake Stadium...part of the meet will be shown live on the Pac-12 Networks from 4-6:30 p.m. PT.
COUGARS AT NEW ZEALAND OUTDOOR TRACK & FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS
Washington State’s Greer Alsop won a silver medal and Charlotte Muschamp won a bronze medal under difficult weather conditions at the Les Mills Athletics New Zealand Track & Field Championships held March 6-8, at Newton Park in Wellington, New Zealand...Alsop (redshirt freshman, Invergargill, NZ) won her silver medal in the women’s senior triple jump with a leap of 11.92m/39-1 1/4...Alsop also competed in the long jump and finished sixth with a mark of 5.34m/17-6 1/4...Muschamp (redshirt junior, Edendale, NZ) won her bronze medal in the high jump with a clearance at 1.71m/5-7 1/4...Alsop’s PR marks are 12.38m/40-7 1/2 in the triple jump and 5.73m/18-9 3/4 in the long jump...Muschamp’s PR in the high jump is 1.82m/5-11 1/2, accomplished at the 2014 Pac-12 Championships where she won first place.
WAYNE PHIPPS, DIR. OF WSU CROSS COUNTRY/TRACK & FIELD
Wayne Phipps (Univ. of British Columbia ‘91/Oregon ‘94) become the 15th coach to take the reins of the Washington State men’s program and the second coach for the combined men’s and women’s program at WSU on July 1, 2014...Phipps had been the University of Idaho’s Director and Track & Field/Cross Country from 2010 through 2014, and was a coach with the Vandals program for a total of 19 years...he served as co-head coach from 2000-09, after serving as an assistant coach from 1995-99...while at Idaho, Phipps was honored 14 times as a conference coach of the year and led the Vandals to a record 16 total conference titles.
COUGAR COACHING STAFF
WSU Track & Field coaching staff includes Associate Head Coaches Julie Taylor (throws), and  Yogi Teevens (sprints and horizontal jumps)...Assistant Coaches are Matt McGee (multis and vertical jumps), Allix Potratz-Lee (distance) and Angela Whyte (sprints, hurdles, jumps)...volunteer coaches include Emma Kertesz (distance), Joshia Sims (sprints/hurdles), Jerhime Sanders (jumps), Tim Taylor (throws) and Liga Velvere (hurdles, middle distance).
ANGELA WHYTE JOINS COUGAR STAFF
Two-time Olympian Angela Whyte joined the WSU track and field coaching staff...she will assist with coaching the hurdles, sprints and jumps...Whyte, 34, is a native of Edmonton, Alberta, and was a member of Team Canada at the 2004 and 2008 Olympic Games...finished sixth in hurdles at 2004 Athens Games...one of just two women to qualify for the IAAF World Championships in the 100m hurdles every year since 2001...PR 100m hurdles time of 12.66 seconds ranked ninth-best in 2013 world rankings...won a silver and a bronze medals at Pan-Am Games...began collegiate career at New Mexico and in two seasons tallied five school records and earned All-Mountain West Conference honors in the 100m hurdles in 2000...at Idaho, was four-time All-American and five-time Big West champion...led Vandal women’s teams to the 2001 and 2003 Big West team titles...named BW Female Athlete of the Year in 2001 and Women’s Track Athlete of the Year in 2003....degree in crime and justice studies from UI in 2003...was inducted into Vandal Athletics Hall of Fame in 2010...assistant coach at Idaho for six years, working with the sprints, hurdles and multi-events...Whyte is currently training in hurdles/heptathlon for the 2015 World Championships this August in Beijing, and for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games.
