PULLMAN, Wash. -- Washington State University’s Alissa Brooks-Johnson won the women’s pentathlon and Austin Sodorff won the men‘s pole vault at the Cougar Indoor Track & Field meet Friday at the WSU Indoor Facility.
Brooks-Johnson, a sophomore from Doty, Wash., won with a season-best score of 3,578 points, just under her 2014 personal-best of 3,633 points. Brooks-Johnson opened the 10-woman pentathlon competition with a lifetime-best time in the 60m hurdles of 8.88 seconds. She high jumped 5-feet 1 1/2 inches (1.56m), threw the shot put 31-5 3/4 (9.59m), long jumped 17-2 (5.23m), and finished with a PR time in the 800m of 2 minutes 19.66 seconds.
Austin Sodorff, a junior from Woodinville, Wash., won the men’s pole vault with a leap of 16-1 1/4 (4.91m). Cougars Anden Lewis, competing unattached, finished fifth with PR clearance at 15-7 1/4 (4.76m), while WSU’s Tucker Mjelde was sixth with a clearance at 15-1 1/2 (4.61m), and Curtis Flolid was eighth with a mark of 14-7 1/2 (4.46m).
Dino Dodig (sophomore, Novi Sad, Serbia) leads the 10-man heptathlon with lifetime-best first day total of 3,089 points, and tallied the top marks in three of the four first-day events. He opened with a season-best 60m dash time of 7.24, long jumped a PR distance of 23-1 1/4 (7.04m), threw the shot put a PR of 43-5 3/4 (13.25m), long jumped 23-1 1/4 (7.04m) and cleared 6-6 (1.98m) in the high jump.
In the women’s long jump, Greer Alsop was the runner-up with a leap of 17-9 (5.41m), with McKenna Hogan third with a PR leap of 17-6 1/4 (5.34m). Katie Dean took sixth place with a season-best mark of 16-10 1/2 (5.14m) and Zoe Moeller was ninth with a mark of 15-10 1/2 (4.84m).
Brock Eager finished fifth in the men’s 35-pound weight throw with a heave of 56-3 1/4 (17.15m).
Kaytlyn Colman, Eastern Washington, won the women’s weight throw with a meet-record throw of 63-3 1/2 (19.29m), breaking her 2014 meet record toss by three feet.
The Cougar Indoor meet continues Saturday, Feb. 7, beginning at 10 a.m. at the WSU Indoor Facility.
