WSU OPEN INDOOR TRACK MEET FINDS COUGAR TEAMS AT HOME
Washington State University’s 13th Annual WSU Indoor Open takes place Friday and Saturday, Jan. 23 and 24, in the Indoor Facility on the Pullman campus…this will be the first home meet for the new Cougar coaching staff led by Director of Cross Country/Track & Field Wayne Phipps...WSU Indoor Facility’s Mondo track features racing at a 60m straightaway, and a 200m oval…jumping and throwing field events are contested on the turf inside the oval…men’s and women’s weight throws, triple jumps and some relays take place Fri., Jan. 23, beginning at 4 p.m...remaining field events will begin Saturday, Jan. 24, at 10:30 a.m. with running events set to start at 10 a.m…no late entries will be accepted...spectators are admitted free of charge for all WSU Track & Field competition in 2015...no live stats and no webcast...results will be posted at www.wsucougars.com, following the meet’s completion.
WAYNE PHIPPS, DIRECTOR OF WSU CROSS COUNTRY/TRACK & FIELD
Wayne Phipps (Univ. of British Columbia ‘91/Oregon ‘94) become the 15th coach to take the reins of the Washington State men’s program and the second coach for the combined men’s and women’s program at WSU on July 1, 2014...Phipps had been the University of Idaho’s Director and Track & Field/Cross Country from 2010 through 2014, and was a coach with the Vandals program for a total of 19 years...he served as co-head coach from 2000-09, after serving as an assistant coach from 1995-99... while at Idaho, Phipps was honored 14 times as a conference coach of the year and led the Vandals to a record 16 total conference titles.
COUGAR COACHING STAFF
WSU Track & Field coaching staff includes Associate Head Coaches Julie Taylor (throws), and Yogi Teevens (sprints and horizontal jumps)...Assistant Coaches are Matt McGee (multis and vertical jumps), and Allix Potratz-Lee (distance)...volunteer coaches include Emma Kertesz (distance), Joshia Sims (sprints/hurdles), Tim Taylor (throws) and Liga Velvere (hurdles, middle distance).
